The EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation), a foundation responsible for ensuring the rights and freedom from network operators, has reported several Americans to practice the theft of searches to Google, Yahoo Bing or including them as their own.
In Spain, companies such as ONO, Jazztel or Yacom, practice called DNS DNS hijacking or kidnapping, consisting of a display sponsored search related terms in response to a domain that users enter and that does not exist in your address bar, not to resolve the requested domain is displayed on that page.
What can be seen from the EFF is that 12 U.S. ISPs have gone further, as they have been detecting even directed searches to the most important services (Google, Bing, Yahoo) are being intercepted and diverted to a third company through proxy.
Research is being conducted in conjunction with ICSI Networking Group, and so far we know that most of these thieves search servers used Paxfire technology company.
The motive for the theft of search is mainly economic, as this creates profiles of individual users based on their interests or as seeking to redirect users to pages associated with that operator with the resulting economic benefits.
